Short Beaked Common Dolphins are being sighted off shore and just outside the Monterey Bay. These speedy little cetaceans are often seen jumping completely out of the air. Often found in large social groups of 15-20, these little dolphins like to bow ride the various vessels passing through the area. Common dolphins are warm water species, but due to the increased water temperature in the Bay we have been seeing them off and on for the past year. Short Beaked Common dolphins average about 8 foot long and 350 pounds. Their diet consists primarily of squid and small schooling fish.
