Artist's Description

The annual Monarch Butterfly migration takes place along the California coast beginning in October and lasting through January. The butterflies cluster up in the eucalyptus groves at Natural Bridges State Beach in Santa Cruz California. They chose the grove for several reasons including the valley location protecting them from the wind and eucalyptus trees in general for their winter bloom. The Monarchs will stay clustered up like this until the temperature reaches about 55 degrees and then they will spread their wings to dry the dew, warm up and then flutter about.
